Yarn at Big Lots
October 20, 2008
Big Lots is a close out discount store that if you haven’t been to one, then you really need to check it out. Some items they have regularly while others they might just get in once and that’s it.
One item I was told about was that they now carry yarn. It’s mostly fun fur or what I like to call novelty yarn. But here’s the best part. Each skein is either $1 or $1.50. I bought some yarn this weekend that retails for at least $4 for only $1. Considering that you need at least two skeins to do any knitting/crochet project, this deal can help you save a lot of money.
The yarn is tucked away in linens and is kept in clear, plastic bins at our local store. You’ll have to dig around but it will be well worth the effort.
Sam’s Club Membership
October 19, 2008
Wanting to shop at Sam’s Club between now and the end of the year but don’t want to necessarily fork over the $40 membership fee? Now there is another option.
Between now and October 26, 2008, you can sign up for a ten-week membership to Sam’s Club for only $10. Check with your local Sam’s Club for details as it seems that this might be a deal only offered on weekend at participating Sam’s Clubs.

Some coupons and rebates are highlighted each week in the weekly flier. The EasySaver catalog is free at Walgreen’s and is found near the front with the weekly sales paper.

MCDonald’s Monopoly
October 9, 2008
Monopoly is back at McDonald’s. Now when you buy certain foods you also get a chance to win cash, free food, and more.
Just peel off the game pieces and enter the codes at PlayatMcd.com to play Monopoly online. Don’t throw that bag away as there is likely to be a free code on it.
The Monopoly game at McDonald’s runs through November 3rd, 2008.
McDonald’s $1 Treat Books
October 8, 2008
The $1 treat books have returned to participating McDonald’s this year. The $1 books contain 12 coupons that are good for small treats. This makes a great trick-or-treat goodie or keep it to use as a treat for yourself.
There are some healthier choices in this year’s treat book like apple dippers or milk/juice. Sadly there’s no coupons for those wonderful McDonald’s french fries. Check your local store for details. Coupons are good from November 1st through December 31st.
The Drugstore Game
October 6, 2008
Do you play the Drugstore game? Each week both CVS and Walgreens will run various sales in their stores. Smart coupon clippers work those deals to their advantage and spend way less on products when they buy them at the right time.
With both drugstores you can earn rewards. CVS offers Extra Care Bucks that can be used on your next purchase. Walgreens has Register Rewards that can also be used on a future purchase. The major difference is the CVS uses a card system, so you just have to show your card to get your rewards. Walgreens will print out your rewards on receipt paper.
CVS definitely seems to have more ways to earn rewards than Walgreens. CVS definitey has the worry free system since there you will not have to keep track of small sheets of paper to cash in on your rewards.
I’m not much into playing the drugstore game but have gotten a few good deals before. If you are in need of either beauty or cleaning products, then chances are you can find it on sale each week. Some food items will also be listed each weeks, so good deals can be had on other products, too. The weekly deals begin each Sunday and run througout the week. It’s best to shop early since some items might sell out fast and won’t be restocked. Check the Sunday’s fliers for the weekly deals. Walgreens also has a monthly coupon book with extra savings, and CVS will have a flier to point out ways to earn extra ECBs(Extra Care Bucks).
With a little planning, it is easy to see how you can save and earn money by playing the drugstore game.
Yarn at Wal-Mart
October 1, 2008
Here’s more of a clearance sale alert than actual deals. But it can equate to a good deal. Apparently Wal-Marts across the country are clearing their shelves of Caron Simply Soft yarn. Our Wal-Mart hasn’t restocked it in weeks and about a week ago began marking it down in price.
Caron Simply Soft is normally $2 a skein but is now marked to $1.50. There are reports from shoppers who have asked about the markdown of yarn that Wal-Mart will no longer carry it and will replace it with more Red Heart yarn. Wal-Mart is getting rid of the yarn that doesn’t sell. This might not be the case at every Wal-Mart but is worth checking out.
I also noticed a sale on bamboo knitting needles. Our Wal-Mart is now selling a new brand of bamboo knitting needles and the old ones are marked down.
